Detroit is known for its history with automobiles. It was here that Henry Ford established the Ford Company and became one of the world’s richest men. He is also known for a mentality or philosophy called “Fordism”. He stressed the mass production of low cost automobiles. Today, Ford is a household name and it is easy to spot a vehicle carrying that name and there’s a chance that you have owned one yourself at one point or the other. Watch Football would be such a mistake (especially for football fans) to miss a Detroit Lions game. A trip to the downtown Detroit to visit the Ford Field would be a treat whether you are a football fan or not. Even if you are someone that doesn’t understand the game, the mere roar of the thousands of fans would get your juices started.

Going to Detroit but want a little feel of Vegas? Then dropping by the MGM Grand Casino would be a great idea. At the MGM Grand Detroit, you not only have the chance to win money, but you also could choose to be pampered at their classy spa, dine in one of their world-class restaurants, or simply relax in your room and enjoy room service. As a child, a lot of us have wanted to go to the Zoo at one point or another. Most kids are amazed and curious about the animals they always see on TV. Seeing a gorilla eat could be one of the most fascinating things a kid would ever experience. If you have kids or simply love animals, the Detroit Zoo has an array of wildlife and there are always a lot of events that are held there. Elephants, monkeys, tigers, lions, you name it.

If you feel like you want to go to cultured events then the Detroit Opera House has a lot to offer. You are almost sure to catch a Michigan Opera Theater production there. It was designed by the same guy that designed the Fillmore Detroit and the Fox Theater. Imagine having a place in one of its 2,700 seats and enjoying the production of your choice. Whatever it is you are into, Detroit really has a lot to offer you. Whether you choose to go with friends, family, or by yourself, you are bound to find something that would fit the occasion or your intention.

Detroit is a major port city as well as being the largest city in Michigan. It is a world-famous automobile manufacturing powerhouse. It has diverse industries such as those specializing in nanotechnology, biotechnology, and cogno- technology. It has a number of casino hotels to bring in additional revenue. The latest fad seems to be the health and wellness industry, with millions being spent by customers to remain healthy and fit and put off diseases as much as possible. Starting a vitamin/supplement business in Detroit can be a viable business idea, as more people are turning to vitamins and supplements to ensure that they stay healthy.

Launching a Vitamin/Supplement Business will be best to analyze first if you have an aptitude for starting a vitamin/supplements business. It will be essential to determine if you will operate from a commercial retail space or from your home. A commercial retail space in a busy area can mean your business is visible, ensuring traffic, whereas if you want to operate from your home, you will have to deal with the zoning restrictions. The overhead will be higher if you choose a commercial retail space. Make sure that your shop has adequate parking space and that the lease has been carefully scrutinized before signing it.

A legal structure is recommended, as it increases credibility as well as offers limited liability protection, select an appropriate name making sure it is unique and catchy. Get adequate insurance coverage. Get the required licenses and permits needed to operate legally. You have to select good health care products and food supplements distributor. Forge a relationship with him and select the brands and varieties of products and supplements that you want to retail and check to ensure that they have provided an adequate profit margin, which can be as much as 150 to 200% at times, and compare the offers of several distributors. Choose the vitamins and supplements that you want to retail after analyzing their demand.

Hire staff if necessary and make sure they have some experience in selling vitamins and supplements so that they can answer questions by customers. Make sure they are constantly trained and are well informed about any new product to be introduced. You could benefit by using the services and products that are offered by firms to help new start-ups succeed. Marketing and advertising cannot be neglected and have to be handled carefully. Have your salespeople explain in an interesting way the advantages of using vitamins and supplements regularly–advertise in newspapers and radio, etc. Make sure your locality is familiar with your business name and the range of products you sell.

A recent survey conducted by the Eastern Michigan University School of Social Work revealed a disturbing trend in Detroit schools. A significant number of children in Grades 6-12 admitted having consumed alcohol, used tobacco products, or smoked marijuana. In fact, the number of students attending Detroit schools who have sought treatment for drug abuse is on the rise.

Growing up in today’s society is not easy. As the pace of modern life gets faster and faster, some of our young people feel left out or left behind. Despite our best efforts to teach children that using drugs is not the way to be accepted or feel better about themselves, for some reason students attending Detroit schools are still feeling the need to experiment with these substances. Let’s encourage these students to talk about their feelings and let’s make a point of really listening to them. It’s not always easy to make time for our children; it seems as if there are always a number of chores to be done or problems to be dealt with. Whether the children are attending Detroit schools or not, they need to have at least one person in their life who accepts them as they are and makes them feel important.

All members of the Detroit schools’ community should be looking out for each other. The “Just Say No” message about using drugs and alcohol is a good one, but not all those attending Detroit schools are getting the message. The best scenario would be if none of the students tried these substances, but that is not realistic. Using drugs and/or alcohol is a problem in itself, but it is also a symptom of a larger problem. Young people spend more time at school with their teachers and peers than they do with their parents. The people who are interacting with them every day are in a unique position to identify students attending Detroit schools who are or who may become addicts.

Detroit Schools are offering tips for parents and students taking tests. Tests, regular and standardized, are supposed to accurately measure how well a child has mastered his or her subjects in school. However, Detroit Schools also understand how stressful a test can be on some children and so they’re giving parents and students ideas on how to help prepare for test day. Yes, parents can help. Many parents are under the ridiculously false assumption that they aren’t able to help their child with homework or to prepare for a test. Of course, this couldn’t be more wrong.

In the weeks before a test, parents should be asking to see their child’s homework assignments. Parents should sit down with their children and discuss the reasons why he or she thinks they are getting the questions wrong. Parents should help children not just with answers to the questions but how those answers were arrived at. When a parent is stumped too, call the teacher. Detroit Schools have gone to lengths ensuring that all on their teaching staff are highly qualified. Parents of Detroit students should not hesitate to call and ask questions regarding their child’s progress.

Parents can also make sure that their child has adequate space to do homework in a quiet and well lit area. A rule of thumb for home work, depending upon age is 20 minutes of study for each hour of class 5 days a week through Jr. High. In High School that number increases to 30 minutes. Friday and Saturday nights can be rest nights with Sunday through Thursday nights being study nights. Effort and accountability are key lessons parents can teach their children. Detroit Schools recommend that parents give lots of praise for a job well done. The younger the child, the more he is actively seeking parental approval.

On the day of the test, Detroit Schools recommend that parents make sure their child is well rested and well fed with a hearty breakfast. Studies have shown that a student who has eaten breakfast performs better on tests. Also parents should be sure that the student arrives to school on time and is calm and relaxed. Reassure him that everything will go well and that he or she is ready. Also parents should re assure that as long as their child has done their best, everything will turn out alright. Detroit Schools will take it from there! Detroit Schools wants parents to ask their children questions about the test. If the student marked a question wrong but knows the right answer, there might be an underlying problem. Concerned parents should contact their teacher. Detroit Schools welcomes calls to teachers, principals, or counselors in order to resolve any problems.

Detroit, Michigan is typically not thought of as a hot spot for vacationers, but that may be the key to a great vacation. There’s tons of fun waiting in Detroit, from its lively casinos to its beautiful architectural sites. Detroit has a few surprises in store as well. There are so many cheap flights to Detroit right now that it will not take a huge chunk of change to get there. Detroit is home to the big three car makers in the United States and there are a lot of attractions built around those car manufacturers, just as there are Detroit museums and tours built around the car industry. Of course Detroit is home to Motown Records and there are museums and clubs that are dedicated to the music industry.

A little known fact about Detroit is that it is host to some pretty awesome casinos. Gaming is relatively new to the Motor City but they have done a fine job at getting casinos up and running. Caesars Windsor is a newly built casino that has two hundred room towers, a ball room, a theater and all the amenities that are expected with the Caesar name. The Forum Tower was newly added and is comparable in size to the Augustus Tower. The casinos in Detroit have breathed new life into the Detroit. Of course, if Caesars is not your cup of tea there are other hotel and casinos to choose from. There is the Motor City Casino that is seventeen stories high and was just built in two thousand and eight.

If gambling is not in your blood, then there are other activities to keep you occupied, like the world class Detroit Science Center. The Center is an interactive experience and a wonderful way to spend the day with the family and learn a little something at the same time. The activities at the Science Center are age appropriate and fun. Detroit is a big metropolitan area that attracts big name entertainment. There are always great shows and concerts happening around Detroit, check ahead to see what is available if you are planning a vacation. And although Detroit may be a big metropolitan area, it is still but a short drive away from some beautiful country – wine country. You’ll find top notch distilleries and wine-tasting. Detroit is also home to several amusement parks that provide hours of family fun and thrills. And no one can overlook Lake Michigan for world class boating, fishing and water sports, or for just picnicking in the beautiful Michigan weather. Get there before the early Michigan winter sets in, though – or you might find yourself up to your armpits in snow earlier than the rest of the country.

You have several choices when it comes to traveling from Metro Airport to the city of Detroit. If you’re familiar with Detroit, you may choose to rent a car from the airport and drive yourself or take the public transit system. You may also choose the less-stressful option of hiring a limo service to take you into the city.

The Detroit Metro Airport offers numerous car rental services including Alamo, Avis, Budget, and Hertz. It’s true that automobiles are a way of life in the Motor City. Major freeways connecting Detroit with its suburbs and beyond include I-75, I-94 and I-96. The Detroit-Windsor Tunnel is a toll tunnel connecting Detroit with Windsor, Ontario, just to the north. Maximum driving speeds are 70 mph. The airport is located 20 miles west of the city center.

It’s important to remember, however, that traffic is heaviest in Detroit around rush hour, as workers fill the downtown area in the morning and vacate it by evening. The city is laid out in a conventional grid system; however, this is sometimes compromised by the meandering shoreline of the Detroit River and Lake St. Clair. Another hindrance to driving yourself is road construction projects which can create lane closures and traffic backups.

Renting an airport limo is not as extravagant as it sounds. In fact, it’s affordable for most travelers. It is also an appealing option to avoiding the hassles of Detroit traffic. Detroit airport limo service is only slightly more than what you would pay for a taxi cab. The difference may only be around $10, and you’ll be receiving much better service. A non-stop journey into the city center should take about 20 minutes when traffic is clear and up to 1 hour during rush traffic.

In Michigan, Checker Cab is the largest company, and serves all of Detroit’s 147 square miles. The cab service is the most recognized is Detroit. Fares in the city of Detroit are set by ordinance. The current fare is $2.50 per trip plus $1.60 per mile. Taxicab meters are set and inspected annually to ensure proper calculation. It’s important to note that vehicles for hire picking up within the city limits of Detroit are required to have a Detroit Bond Plate attached to the vehicle. In addition, drivers are required to secure a Public Vehicle license. Riders should never hail a vehicle that does not have these two important items. While it is not customary to tip a Detroit cabbie, you may tip them several dollars for help with your bags.

After a long time of slaving at work, it’s good to know that we all have our vacations. The thing is, the best way to enjoy a vacation is to know what to do in the particular place you are going to. If you are planning on visiting the great city of Detroit, Michigan soon, you are in luck: it’s a unique place with a 300 year old history that is intricately bound with Henry Ford and the automobile industry. If you’ve only got a little bit of time to spend there, here are some ideas about things to do in Detroit vacations.

Henry Ford Museum – Detroit is known for its history with automobiles.

Walleye is one of the most popular fresh water species for eating. A shore lunch featuring walleye is a very difficult meal to beat, no matter what type of food it may be compared to. Walleye are easy to catch in the Detroit River if you know a bit about the walleye. Walleye will usually attempt to stay deep in the water, so be sure that the jigs you are using have enough of a weight of some type to sink into the water; and the jigs are a bit colorful so the walleye will be sure to see them. Also, another tip is to be sure to use jigs that won’t swivel or twist too much.

A good tip to remember with your lure or jig is that “if you don’t feel it on the bottom” you aren’t going to catch that walleye. However, when it comes to your boat, use a trolling motor, and if possible go into the wind or the river’s current. This decreases the noise as well. You don’t have to have a huge engine or fast boat to catch those walleye in the Detroit River.

Of course, you have to have patience and give the walleye time to get adjusted to the jig or lure being on the bottom. As they get used to the jig they will then of course presume it is food and therefore attempt to eat it. When this happens and you feel that initial tug, don’t yank your rod; instead slowly reel and then when you know the walleye is virtually trying to swim away from you and the boat, it is hooked. This is the time to reel it in.

There are a variety of tips for various times of year too. In these situations, fishing in the Detroit River for walleye is usually best in the early months of spring. One tip that has proven successful too is the temperature of the surface water. If the water is less than fifty degrees the walleye seem to like body bait rather than stick bait. However, once the water temperature does change and get warmer, the walleye like the lures better as bait. So, in all fairness this is a good tip to keep in mind as well. When the conditions are set just right, it is possible to catch literally dozens of huge, adult walleyes in a single day. Although keeping a limit on what an individual catches is a good idea too.

Amazingly, for many fish anglers the best tips and secrets are learned while fishing for walleye. Some people think it’s from experience while others disagree. Tips sometimes have to be based on the surrounding area and where exactly the walleye are capable of jumping on a fat night crawler. Remember they are carnivores and this is enticing to them. In addition to these tips and strategies, an avid walleye angler can find several different web sites that are detailed in walleye fishing.

Time is of the essence. As soon as you have set a date for the wedding, sit down and decide the number of guests – this will greatly determine what type of reception locations you should consider. Decide too what type of wedding you are going to have. Is it going to be formal? Classy casual? Will you invite only immediate family and close friends or will you plan a larger event? Based on the type of wedding you’re planning, decide on an appropriate setting for your reception.

For a grand affair, consider the International Grand Ballroom at the MGM Grand Detroit. A Detroit icon, the Roostertail is located on the Detroit River and has hosted some of the city’s most grand affairs since its inception in the 1950s. Brides have a choice of the Marine Room, Palm River Room, the Club Room, or the Outdoor Deck for a stunning extravaganza. Other distinct venues include the Pine Knob Mansion and Carriage House or the ballroom at The Polo Fields Golf and Country Club for a classic wedding.

For those with a love of history, the Detroit area is brimming with possibilities in reception locations. The understated elegance of the Henry Ford Estate affords unforgettable ambiance as guests are entertained in the very same rooms where the Ford family once welcomed heads of state and captains of industry. Revenue generated by events at the estate helps support its preservation, so couples have the satisfaction of giving back to the national historical landmark.

Another historic location, the Cranbrook House is the oldest surviving manor home in metro Detroit. The home is decorated with period furnishings, tapestries, and other works of art. The 40-acre Cranbrook Gardens is highlighted by the Sunken Garden, fountains and sculpture, and a lake stretching out beyond the fieldstone walls. Both create a stunning backdrop to any reception.

The Gem and Century Theaters offer banquet facilities inside a beautiful, historic setting. Beautifully decorated with architectural relics such as antique fireplaces, ornate chandeliers and Pewabic tiles, the venue features an upscale restaurant and full-service banquet facilities – all in the heart of downtown’s entertainment district.

Brides who want an outdoor wedding/reception have plenty of beautiful locations from which to choose. For example, Heavenly Scent Herb Farm in Fenton provides a variety of water features, a gazebo, and fragrant gardens for up to 250 guests. A garden wedding at Matthaei Botanical Gardens is perfect for the special day. Set against a lush garden backdrop, guests enjoy panoramic views of the award-winning gardens from the expansive patio, or indoors where floor-to-ceiling windows overlook the Gateway Garden of New World Plants. Outdoor ceremonies can be held on Willow Pond Island or indoors in the Conservatory.

Through the years, the declining job market in Michigan has been prompting many homeowners to put up their properties under foreclosures. Many homeowners fail to repay mortgages, taxes and amortizations to housing financings. Mortgage lenders and government institutions are forced to foreclose properties. In Detroit, because the major car manufacturers in the city are laying off thousands of employees, many homeowners fail to diligently and responsibly pay for home loans. Thus, the number of foreclosures continues to grow.

Because there are just too many foreclosures available in Detroit, many foreclosure listings also arise. You will not have a hard time finding any of those listings. They may flood across the Internet. Some Detroit foreclosure listings may require memberships and subscription fees, while others are freely circulated. You may use any of the listings and find suitable foreclosed homes that fit your requirements and standards.

You could also ask your property agent about such Detroit foreclosure listings. Real estate agents should be able to refer or recommend several foreclosure listings. They should know more than anyone else that you as a homebuyer should be provided with as many available options possible. For your part, you should make sure you check out multiple Detroit foreclosure listings so you could find foreclosed homes for sale in areas of interest.

Many homebuyers and home investors are enjoying a feast these days because there are just too many foreclosed homes available in the market. Detroit is one of the major cities where the number of home foreclosures is constantly rising. When browsing through Detroit foreclosure listings, do not forget to check for updates. You may be looking at an outdated list. Refresh your computer or ask for newer or latest list editions.
